Chennai Corporation Conducts Two-Day Gender Club Training Programme for Teachers in 211 Schools

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has launched a two-day capacity-building programme for teachers coordinating Gender Clubs in Corporation schools. The initiative aims to strengthen gender sensitisation, child safety, and inclusive education across Chennai`s government schools.

The training programme equips teachers with practical knowledge and skills to create safe, inclusive, and gender-sensitive learning environments while effectively implementing Gender Club activities in their schools.

The curriculum includes topics such as gender equality and social inclusion, child rights and protection laws, school safety, prevention of bullying and sexual harassment, online safety, adolescent mental health, life skills education, gender-sensitive teaching methods, government welfare schemes, and preparation of annual action plans for Gender Clubs.

Teachers are participating in expert-led lectures, interactive group discussions, practical exercises, and role-play sessions designed to enhance leadership and coordination skills. The programme also aims to encourage positive behavioural changes among students through effective gender awareness initiatives.

The training was inaugurated by Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner G.S. Sameeran and is attended by teachers from 211 Corporation schools where Gender Clubs are currently functioning. The two-day programme is being held on August 6 and 7, reinforcing the civic body`s commitment to promoting equality, safety, and inclusive education in Chennai schools.
