Vithya Ramraj Breaks PT Usha’s 42-Year-Old Record; Tamil Nadu Announces ₹30 Lakh Reward

Tamil Nadu athlete Vithya Ramraj has achieved a significant milestone in Indian athletics by winning bronze in the women`s 400m hurdles at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan and setting a new national record.

Following her performance, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay congratulated the athlete and announced a cash incentive of ₹30 lakh in recognition of her achievement.

Vithya Ramraj Sets a New National Record

Vithya clocked 54.75 seconds in the women`s 400m hurdles final in Nagoya, securing the bronze medal and surpassing the previous national record of 55.42 seconds.

The earlier record was set by legendary Indian athlete P.T. Usha at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. Vithya had equalled the mark at the 2023 Asian Games before going on to establish a new record in Japan.
