The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has announced strict action against vehicles that violate construction rules and contribute to air pollution in the city. As part of efforts to control rising dust pollution and protect public health, the civic body has implemented the “Clean and Safe Construction Guidelines 2025.”

Under the new guidelines, vehicles transporting construction materials and Construction & Demolition (C&D) waste must strictly follow safety and pollution-control regulations. Authorities stated that violations leading to dust emission and environmental pollution will attract heavy penalties.

Key Rules for Construction Vehicles

- Vehicles must be fully covered with tarpaulin on top and all four sides.

- Construction materials should not spill onto roads during transportation.

- Overloading beyond permitted limits is strictly prohibited.

- Any activity causing dust particles to spread into the air will be treated as a violation.

₹25,000 Spot Fine & Vehicle Seizure

Vehicles found violating these rules will be immediately seized, and a spot fine of ₹25,000 will be imposed. Seized vehicles will be released only after the full penalty amount is paid.

The Greater Chennai Corporation stated that these measures are aimed at keeping the city clean, reducing air pollution, and ensuring safer construction practices. Officials have urged vehicle owners, construction companies, and the public to cooperate in maintaining a healthier urban environment.
