Major Disruption: All IndiGo Flights from Chennai Cancelled on Friday
In a massive setback for air travellers, IndiGo has cancelled all flights operating from Chennai on Friday. Following this, the airline has formally written to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), requesting not to allow IndiGo passengers inside the Chennai Airport terminal, as no flights are operational.
Reason for the Large-Scale Cancellation
IndiGo has been struggling due to a shortage of pilots required to comply with the newly implemented, stricter Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL). The new rules demand longer rest periods for pilots, but IndiGo reportedly does not have sufficient pilot strength to support its schedule.
This shortage has severely disrupted IndiGo operations across major metros in the last few days.

Mumbai – 85 flights cancelled
Hyderabad – 70 flights cancelled
Bengaluru – 50 flights cancelled
Chennai & Coimbatore – Majority of flights cancelled
Mass Cancellations Continue in Chennai
From Thursday midnight to Friday, a total of 65 IndiGo arrivals and departures scheduled at the Chennai Airport have been cancelled. The airline has instructed CISF to restrict IndiGo passengers from entering the terminal to avoid overcrowding.
This move resulted in hundreds of passengers being stopped at the entry gates, leading to confusion and severe inconvenience.
