Thiruvanmiyur Bus Terminal to Reopen Next Year After Major Renovation

The Thiruvanmiyur Bus Terminal in Chennai, a key hub on the East Coast Road (ECR) and one of the city`s 35 bus terminals, is set to reopen in April next year after extensive renovation. The terminal, which handles over 100 bus services daily, had long suffered from waterlogging during rains, poorly maintained passenger facilities, and limited parking for private vehicles.
Renovation and Facilities:
- The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) is carrying out the redevelopment on behalf of MTC at a cost of ₹35.11 crore.
- The terminal spans 1.66 acres, with a built-up area of 6,000 sq.m.
- Upgrades include spacious waiting areas, ticket counters, medical facilities, shops, separate boarding and alighting zones, and resting rooms for bus staff.
- A three-story main building and a two-story commercial block will be added, including 13 bus bays capable of handling around 70 buses simultaneously.
- Separate parking zones will be available for cars and two-wheelers.
