The Central Government has announced a steep hike in the Fitness Certificate fees for vehicles that are 20 years old, as part of its efforts to reduce the number of ageing vehicles on Indian roads.
According to the revised rates:
- Lorries and Buses: Fee increased from ₹3,500 to ₹25,000
- Medium Commercial Vehicles: ₹20,000
- Light Motor Vehicles: ₹15,000
Officials said the move aims to discourage the continued use of old, polluting vehicles and promote safer, environmentally compliant transport.
