One serious health issue that affects many these days is strokes. On Wednesday, 29th October World Stroke Awareness Day was celebrated in Apollo Hospitals in Chennai. In this event, a plan to expand the medical expenditure for stroke patients was introduced.
The doctors revealed that every year in Chennai 10,000 people suffer from strokes and that is really shocking. It must be noted that the event was attended by CEO of Apollo Hospitals Dr. Illankumaran Kaliyamoorthy and senior neurologist Dr. U.M. Srinivas and Dr. Vijay Shankar plus others. It was brought out by the neurologists that across the world more than 13 million people suffer from strokes. In Chennai city alone the number is 10000. They mentioned the absence of awareness regarding strokes in the society.
What exactly is stroke?
It is worthy to note that if there is a blockage or bleeding in the blood vessel leading to the brain then the flow of blood and oxygen would be interrupted. This would lead to stroke in us. It is necessary to treat stroke immediately or else the brain would get paralysed. Information gathered is that 1.90 lakh neuron cells are destroyed in the brain of a stroke patient. In such a scenario, timely treatment is the only way to protect a person`s brain from permanent damage and death etc. It must be recalled that in 2023 Apollo Hospitals started stroke recovery centres and now there are plans to expand it further.
