Importance of maintaining heart health was stressed by the heart specialists belonging to the famous Kauvery hospitals in Chennai regarding the World Heart Health Day on 29th September. They also highlighted various preventive strategies and treatment options etc for treating cardiovascular diseases.
On Monday, 29th September a webinar took place at the Kauvery Hospitals. The title for the webinar was Heart Health: Inside and Out. It is worthy to mention that the doctors have asked the people to adopt a healthy lifestyle by keeping diabetes, BP and cholesterol levels under control and by quitting smoking/drinking, eating healthy foods and staying physically active.
The shocking piece of information is that Indians when compared with Caucasians and Western populations have thrice the risk of developing heart attacks. This is due to the greater prevalence of premature atherosclerosis disease. Dr. Arunkumar Krishnasamy, senior consultant, cardiothoracic surgery, Kauvery Hospitals spoke about how the coronary artery size in the Indian population was smaller. He added that CABG or coronary artery bypass surgery would increase the survival , relieves chest pain etc of the patients.
It was brought out by Dr. Bharath Kumar, senior consultant, interventional cardiologist that 5 `S` like sedentary lifestyle, saturated fats, stressful work, substance abuse and sleeplessness were responsible for the heart attacks in youths.
