Beginning of a new era!!
Who would have thought a few years back that in the future trains would run on hydrogen in India?
This has happened now at ICF or Integral Coach Factory in Chennai. It is learnt that the Indian first ever hydrogen train trial test was successfully completed at ICF. It is now said that this could be the beginning of a new era.
Mr. Ashwini Vaishnav, Railway minister shared this important information on X page. He has mentioned that India is currently developing a 1200 horsepower train engine. This would place India amongst other countries regarding hydrogen train technology.
Importance of hydrogen trains?
While conventional trains would emit smoke, carbon dioxide and would pollute the air around us, hydrogen trains would not cause any air pollution etc.
It is learnt that India has decided to operate 35 Hydrogen based trains under the project titled Hydrogen for Heritage. Mostly in the hilly regions and in the tourist destinations, these hydrogen trains would be operated. The pilot project has been started in the first phase at a cost of Rs 111.83 crores.
Information collected is that diesel trains would be replaced by hydrogen fuel cells. On the Jind-Sonepat junction of the Northern Indian railways, hydrogen trains would be operated. Operation of hydrogen trains would be of huge advantage both economically and environmentally.
At present, certain developed countries like Germany, Japan etc used hydrogen train technology. Soon, India would also join these countries. It is superb to note that this would help India to achieve its goal of zero carbon emissions.
