Great news!! Electric bus service to be launched in Chennai on 30th June!!
Superb news for the Chennai residents now!!
On 30th of June 2025, electric bus service would be launched in Chennai by the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr. M.K. Stalin.
To meet the demands of the Chennai passengers MTC has taken a decision to operate 1100 low floor electric buses. In 2023, a tender was floated to procure 500 electric buses in the first phase with financial aid from a Germany based bank is well known.
Another tender was floated in February to procure 600 electric buses with low floors. It must be recalled that an agreement was also signed with Ashok Leyland subsidiary OHM Global Mobility and production of low floor electric buses began. The electric buses were parked at the workshops near Pallavan Illam and at Perumbakkam. Work regarding setting up of electric charging stations got completed also
In this scenario, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu is set to launch the new low floored electric buses on 30th June 2025.
It is now said that before the end of 2025 about 625 electric buses would start to operate and steps have been taken regarding this.
