An important piece of information for the residents!!

The news is that the TN govt has given approval to install PET scan infrastructure for detecting the spread of cancer. Hence, PET scan infra has been set up in 4 locations including Guindy based Kalaignar Centenary Hospital.

Point is that permission has been granted to the MD of TN Medical Services Corporation to carry out procurement activity in a transparent way.

As per the GO issued by Mr. P. Senthilkumar, public welfare secretary PET scan facilities have been set up in Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, Salem and Thanjavur Medical College Hospitals and at Arignar Anna Cancer Centre in Karapettai in Kanchipuram district.

In this scenario, the TN health minister Mr. M. Subramanian announced in LA that new PET scan centres would be set up with private participation in places like Chennai, Trichy, Villupuram and Tiruvallur hospitals.

As per the study conducted in this regard it was found out that PET scan infra could not be set up at the Tiruvallur hospital. It was brought to light that a PET scan infra could be set up at the Tiruppur Medical College Hospital as a state-of-art cancer radiation device named Linac and treatment infrastructure are going to come up there.

In this situation, the director of TN Medical Services Corporation proposed some recommendations to the government. It was recommended to set up a PET scan infrastructure with private contribution without any financial burden on the government. Recommendation was also made regarding setting up of PET scan infrastructure without disturbing the already existing buildings and without requiring additional staff etc. It must be taken into account that after careful consideration the TN government has given approval for setting up of PET scan infrastructure at locations like Guindy, Trichy, Villupuram and Tiruppur across Tamil Nadu.
