Chennai Metro Completes 10 Years with Over 39 Crore Passengers
The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) is set to mark a major milestone— 10 years of successful operations on June 29, 2025. Since its inauguration in 2015, the Metro has become a key mode of urban transportation in Chennai, with over 39 crore passengers having travelled on the network over the past decade.
In 2024 alone, ridership witnessed a significant surge. The year saw more than 10.5 crore passengers commuting via Chennai Metro, underlining its growing popularity among city residents.
Monthly Ridership Figures for 2025:
- January: 86.99 lakh
- February: 86.65 lakh
- March: 92.10 lakh
- April: 87.59 lakh
- May: 89.09 lakh
To further enhance convenience and encourage digital adoption, CMRL continues to offer a 20% discount on ticket purchases made through multiple platforms, including:
- Mobile QR Code Ticketing (Single, Return, Group, Trip Passes)
- Digital Platforms such as WhatsApp (+91 83000 86000), Paytm, and PhonePe
Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), CMRL expressed gratitude to its commuters, saying:
