The Vidiyal Travel Scheme for women in Chennai - From 2021 to 2025!!
The Tamil Nadu government has revealed that under the Vidiyal Travel Scheme women travel 50 times per month and save 8% to 10% of their monthly income.
When did the Vidiyal Travel Scheme come into effect?
It must be recalled that in the year 2021 DMK government took over in TN and Mr. M. K. Stalin became the chief minister. He signed 5 files on the same day and one such file was about Vidiyal Travel Scheme for free travel in the city buses for women. The women have been travelling to their destinations for free in the buses after the implementation of the scheme. Information gathered is that more than 676 cr have travelled for free under the Vidiyal Travel Scheme. It is well known that women also go to work to meet the demands of their families.
This scheme has benefited lots of women to a huge extent. A study was organised by the state planning commission and it also published a report. The report stated that the amount saved by each woman through this superb scheme has been utilised for the development of their families. The saving of up to Rs 1200 per month has been possible under this scheme.
The TN govt has released details regarding the number of times a woman can travel for free under the Vidiyal Travel Scheme. It is worth mentioning here that this scheme has benefitted women in Chennai to a huge extent by saving their money and increasing their mobility etc.
It has been brought to light that under the scheme a woman travels an average of 50 times per month saving up to Rs 858 per month. That is 8% to 12% of their total income.
