Chennai polices sensational effort to ensure visible policing is making many heads turn now!!

To ensure visible policing in several places in Chennai, the police have revived bicycle patrolling yesterday. It is worthy to note that as per the order from the Chennai police commissioner Mr. Shankar Jiwal police personnel in 12 police districts patrolled in Chennai.
It is necessary that there must be a good relationship between public and police personnel and for this reason the Chennai police commissioner gave instructions to all the DCP’s to carry out regular bicycle patrolling in their jurisdictions. By this, there would not be any gap between the police and public and police would be easily approachable.
Later, DCP of Triplicane, Mr. P. Pagalavan spoke about how patrolling would be done on bicycles criss-crossing narrow lanes and crowded areas. This would be to ensure visible policing. He hinted that a plan has been made to execute a traditional way of cycle patrolling. It is now brought out that atleast 4 police personnel would move around on bicycles in each beat of the police station for 2 to 3hours every day.
Point to be noted is that when the police personnel go in the jeeps or in the two wheelers then the public might not have easy access to them. By using bicycles, the police personnel would become more approachable by the public and moving in the areas with heavy crowds would be easier for the police personnel. Another benefit of using bicycles is that the police personnel would become more fit. It is true that the culprits could now be easily caught by the police personnel.
