On Wednesday, 15th August 2018, chief minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr. E. Palaniswami hoisted the Indian flag at Fort St George and caught the attention of many. He announced that under the ‘housing for all’ scheme the state government would build as many as 1.5lakh houses at a cost of Rs 2296 crores. Chief Minister of TN took many by surprise when he announced hike in the pension for the freedom fighters plus quota in jobs for the sports persons winning medals. It is known that the state of TN has been progressing in various sectors. The Chief Minister recounted Tamil Nadu’s progress during the 72nd Independence Day celebrations. Many project works to tune of amount Rs 22439.92 crores has been completed by the government of TN. Welfare schemes worth of amount Rs 16680.84 crores are started by the state government.
Mr. E. Palaniswami later spoke about how the government is implementing various developmental schemes and how the government is following the footsteps of former chief minister of TN, J. Jayalalitha. He threw light on the government order that was issued to build a memorial of former chief minister Jayalalitha at her burial site on the Marina beach and in her Poes Garden residence also. He explained about how for the first time in 83 years desilting works was launched at the Mettur Dam. It must be noted that 6.52 lakh crore metric ton of silt was given to the farmers after desilting many lakes across Tamil Nadu.
The chief minister of TN, Mr. E. Palaniswami, spoke about how the government was taking steps to implement second phase work from Madhavaram to Sholinganallur and Madhavaram to Koyambedu routes. In Coimbatore a textile exhibition would take place at the cost of Rs 2 crores. This was also confirmed by the chief minister.
It is important to mention that as a part of its aim to create ‘hut free’ Tamil Nadu, 1.30 lakh houses would be built for an amount of Rs 2276 crores. This would be under the prime minster ‘Awas Yojana’ scheme. Under the solar green project, as many as 20000 houses would also be built for Rs 420 crores.
For those sports persons who secure gold, silver and bronze medals at the state and national events representing TN and India, there would be 2 % sub quota for certain posts in both government as well as in the public sector units in TN.
From the current amount of Rs 13000, the pension for the freedom fighters has been increased to Rs 15000. The family pension from the current amount of Rs 6500 has been increased to Rs 7500. These were also announced by the chief minister. The chief minister finally spoke about how he wanted the state of TN to become a leading state in India.
