The occasion of the 375th anniversary since Chennai was formed will be celebrated for 9 days from 17th to 25th August.
22nd August, the day on which Mr. Francis Day of East India Company bougtht the are where St. George Fort stands is celebrated as Chennai (birth) day.
To celebrate the occasion of the 375th anniversary, Chennai week is celebrated as ‘Namma Madras Nalla Madras’ from 17th to 25th August.
The celebration committee is headed by the noted Madras History Exponent, Mr. S. Muthaiah. ‘Madras week’ or ‘Chennai week’ will be celebrated with 17 variety of programmes covering more than 100 performances. Music, Films, Lectures, Traditional historical places, walking trips to green areas, exhibitions, and food fairs will be conducted.
There will be an exhibition on the Areminans who conducted trades in the Armenian Church. There will be a photographic exhibition on the bombing of Chennai from the ship ‘Yemden’.
All entertainment Associations have joined together to celebrate Chennai week. The expenses will be borne by various companies.
