Chennai Suburban Train Services Fully Restored on Beach–Chengalpattu Route
In a big relief for daily commuters, suburban train services have returned to normal on the Chennai Suburban Railway stretch between Chennai Beach and Chengalpattu from Friday (April 3).
The Southern Railway has restored all 204 train services that were earlier reduced due to maintenance work at Chennai Egmore Railway Station. The project, focused on platforms 10 and 11, has now been completed ahead of schedule.
Services Back to Normal
- Total trains increased from 160 to 204
- Routes including Beach–Tambaram–Chengalpattu–Arakkonam fully operational
- Timings, stoppages, and schedules restored to regular pattern
During the maintenance period, several services were cancelled or diverted, causing inconvenience to passengers. Trains were rerouted through fast-line platforms, leading to delays and congestion across the network.
To manage the disruption, alternative arrangements like MRTS connectivity and additional buses were provided.
With the early completion of work—originally planned until April 5—train services have now resumed smoothly, bringing much-needed relief to thousands of daily commuters in Chennai.
