Applications for admission under the 25% reservation quota in private schools across Tamil Nadu will begin on April 20, 2026. The Directorate of Private Schools has announced the schedule under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009, which ensures free education for children from economically weaker and disadvantaged sections.
As per the RTE Act, all non-minority private schools must reserve at least 25% of seats in entry-level classes such as LKG and Class 1.
RTE Admission 2026-27 Important Dates
April 20 – May 18, 2026: Online application submission
May 20, 2026: Publication of eligible and rejected applicant lists
May 22, 2026: Lottery process (if applications exceed seats)
May 25 – May 27, 2026: Final admission process
May 29, 2026: Schools submit final admission report

RTE Admission Process Explained
- Schools will display the number of available seats under the 25% quota
- Applications must be submitted online only
- If the number of applicants exceeds available seats, a random lottery system will be conducted
