Chennai Metro Double-Decker Corridor to Open Soon; Butt Road Delay Affects Timeline
The double-decker Chennai Metro corridor between Alapakkam and Alwarthirunagar is expected to be completed within the next four months, paving the way for seamless interchanges at four stations connecting Corridors 4 and 5, according to Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL).
In a further expansion plan, CMRL intends to extend Metro services beyond Chennai Trade Centre to Alandur, creating an additional Phase I–II interchange and improving network connectivity across key parts of the city.
However, progress at Butt Road station has been delayed due to pending traffic clearance approvals. The slowdown has put the proposed June opening target under risk, with officials indicating that timelines will depend on resolving on-ground traffic management issues at the earliest.
