Ahead of the 75th Republic Day, Chennai International Airport has been placed under a stringent five-tier security blanket from Saturday midnight until January 30. Security will be further upgraded to a seven-tier system on January 24, 25, and 26.
Vehicles entering the airport are being thoroughly checked with sniffer dogs, while bomb disposal squads and armed police are conducting intensive patrols across terminals, parking areas, apron, and cargo zones. Passenger screening has been enhanced, with restrictions on carrying liquids and food items in cabin baggage.
Passengers are advised to arrive early 1.5 hours before domestic flights and 3.5 hours before international flights. Airport authorities said flight operations will continue smoothly despite the heightened security.
