The Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) has officially launched the ‘Chennai Ula’ tourist bus service, starting today, January 17, offering residents and visitors an affordable way to explore the city’s heritage and cultural landmarks.
The service was inaugurated on January 14 by S. S. Sivasankar, Minister for Transport, Government of Tamil Nadu.
Hop-On Hop-Off Tourist Bus Service
Under the ‘Chennai Ula’ initiative, five special tourist buses have been introduced with Hop-On Hop-Off facilities, allowing passengers to board and alight at multiple destinations throughout the day using a single ticket.
The buses will operate on a circular route connecting Chennai’s most iconic and culturally significant locations.
30-Kilometre Heritage Tourism Circuit
The route has been planned as a 30-kilometre loop, covering 16 major historical, cultural, and recreational landmarks across Chennai.
Key attractions on the Chennai Ula route include:
- Marina Beach
- Government Museum, Egmore
- Chennai Lighthouse
- Kannagi Statue
- Central Railway Station area and other prominent city landmarks
Ticket Fare and Booking Details
- Ticket Price: ₹50 (valid for the entire day)
- Unlimited travel across all five Chennai Ula buses using a single ticket

Affordable Tourism Initiative
The Chennai Ula service aims to promote urban tourism, make heritage travel accessible to all, and offer a convenient sightseeing option for families, tourists, and students at a nominal cost.
MTC officials confirmed that passengers can board and alight multiple times throughout the day using the same ticket across all operating buses.
