Rs 39.78-Crore Civic Projects Launched in North Chennai; Madhavaram and Manali Lakes Get Boating Facilities

Tamil Nadu Minister for Municipal Administration and Water Supply K.N. Nehru on Wednesday inaugurated and laid foundation stones for a series of development projects worth ₹39.78 crore across the Madhavaram, Manali and Tiruvottiyur zones.

The Minister inaugurated the Madhavaram Lake boating facility in Ward 27 at a cost of ₹15.03 crore and the Manali Lake boating facility in Ward 20, developed at ₹10.41 crore, both under the AMRUT 2.0 and Capital Fund schemes. He also laid the foundation stone for a new bus terminus in Manali (₹4.75 crore) and a community hall at Manali Pudhunagar (₹7.50 crore). Later, he inaugurated an Animal Birth Control (ABC) centre at Sathangadu village in Tiruvottiyur.

The restored Madhavaram Lake now has increased water storage capacity and enhanced amenities including walkways, green cover, parking, children’s play area and boating, with 18 boats introduced. The Manali Lake boating facility has also been newly established.

The proposed Manali bus terminus will feature modern commuter facilities, while the community hall will include dining and meeting halls with parking. At the ABC centre, stray dogs will undergo sterilisation, vaccination and care before being released.

Mayor R. Priya, Chennai North MP Kalanidhi Veerasamy, local MLAs, Deputy Mayor M. Mahesh Kumar, Corporation Commissioner J. Kumaragurubaran, and senior officials attended the events.
