Chennai Airports Modern Plaza Passenger Lounge to Open by December
The long-awaited Plaza Passenger Lounge at Chennai Airport is expected to open by the end of this month or in December, according to airport officials.
The new lounge, located opposite Terminal 1, aims to ease the inconvenience faced by domestic passengers who currently walk long distances between the multi-level car park and the pickup point. The Plaza will provide direct vehicle access, eliminating the need to travel through the car park.
Facilities at the new Plaza Lounge include luggage storage rooms, comfortable seating, charging points, snack counters, souvenir shops, and restrooms — offering passengers a comfortable space to rest and refresh.
Initially, only white-board private vehicles will be permitted to enter and pick up passengers from the Plaza area. Rental and yellow-board vehicles will be allowed after a few months.
Although construction delays pushed back the initial completion date from October 2024, the facility is now set to open by December 2025 or January 2026, bringing much-needed convenience to Chennai’s air travelers.
