Sensational humanity work from the Greater Chennai Police!!
On 21st of April 2021 the Greater Chennai Police made many heads to turn when they launched a fantastic initiative called Kaval Karangal. Through this initiative, Greater Chennai Police has been reuniting many persons with their families and they have been bringing huge happiness to many families. In the last 4 years, as many as 8700 persons in distress have been benefited by this initiative. This initiative is operating now under the guidance of GCP Commissioner Mr. J. Arun.
In the month of September 2025 alone, through this superb initiative the Greater Chennai police have reunited 30 missing persons with their families. Moreover, the police personnel have rescued 154 homeless and destitute persons in Chennai. This was revealed by an official data from the Chennai city police. It must be recalled that Kaval Karangal helped in the reunion of a missing teenage boy (due to his mental health condition) from Salem with his family. The teenager was found in Egmore railway station and Greater Chennai Police put huge efforts.
Technology driven platform:
To enhance the effectiveness of this Kaval Karangal initiative through real time tracking, faster response and coordination among police stations, NGOs, hospitals and shelters etc, a technology driven platform is being developed now.
It is learnt that in September 2025 alone about 154 persons were rescued and provided assistance. Point is that as many as 41 persons received psychiatric treatment, 9 persons received treatment at the hospitals. Above all, 112 unclaimed dead bodies were given proper burials with the support from NGO.
