More than just sand and surf at the famous Marina Beach in Chennai, GCC having superb plans!!
Dedicated kids play zone and adult`s fitness area etc could soon find a place in the popular Marina Beach in Chennai.
The GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation is having superb plans now to make this beach offer more than just sand and surf. Incredible!!
In the future, the children`s park here would have skating rinks, wall climbing activities plus classic playground equipment such as sea saws, swings, slides and merry-go-rounds etc.
The GCC aims at encouraging physical activity, coordination and imaginative play along with safety and durability etc. For this, decorative panels, flower shaped elements, a soft artificial turf surface and see-saw style rides etc would be present.
To promote routine exercise, adults would get a dedicated fitness hub with gym equipment that would include hydraulics also. It was later explained by the GCC Commissioner Mr. J. Kumaragurubaran that the kids play unit would cost Rs 64 lakhs and adult fitness facilities would cost around Rs 1 cr. He spoke about how the 50 acre beach that was restored in 2025 earned Blue Flag certification. He added that to divert a section of crowd at Marina Beach recreational spaces would be required. By this, illegal stalls would be curbed.
To encourage the public to engage in physical activity, GCC would introduce indoor gaming facilities including badminton courts. Important information is that a detailed project report or DPR is being prepared and work orders would be issued soon.
