Chennai’s iconic Rajeshwari Cinema in Vadapalani, which entertained movie lovers for more than five decades, has begun demolition work today, leaving behind a wave of nostalgia and sadness among the public.
For nearly 50 years, Rajeshwari Cinema stood as a landmark in Vadapalani, offering an affordable movie experience to thousands of Chennaiites. Even after the rise of multiplexes and modern theatres, this cinema continued to keep ticket prices accessible - ranging from just ₹40 to ₹60 - making it a favourite spot for the common man.
The theatre remained in operation until the Covid-19 pandemic, after which screenings were stopped. Known for its simple yet memorable movie-going experience, Rajeshwari Cinema holds a special place in the hearts of generations who enjoyed films here with family and friends.
