The news is that residents belonging to Indira Nagar and Kanaga Durgai Amman Nagar in Kancheepuram have submitted a petition to the Union minister of state for Railways Mr. Somanna. The residents have demanded measures that would be required to be taken regarding constructing a subway near the new railway station in Kancheepuram. It is learnt that the Union minister of state for railways inspected the new railway station and took part in discussions regarding the plans to improve the railway station. The residents from Indira Nagar suddenly arrived there and submitted a petition to the minister.
As per the petition submitted there are 2 railway stations in Kancheepuram namely Kancheepuram East and new railway station. It was mentioned that the area of location of the new railway station links Chennai-Bangalore highway and there would be a lot of traffic in the area.
Point is that a demand to construct a flyover was raised because all the vehicles including ambulances would have to stand in a big queue if the railway gate gets closed. As a result, a flyover was built through Ponnerikarai and has been in functioning now. It is worthy to mention that the Railway dept has permanently closed the railway gate that was present on the Old road. To prevent vehicles going near, a mega ditch has been made also.
Bitter fact is that about 25000 families belonging to Indira Nagar ad Kanaga Durgai Amman Nagar extension areas were affected. The shocking piece of information is that school and college students plus others like office goers and senior citizens etc have been forced to travel about 2km unnecessarily via the flyover since the Railways dept has closed the road. This road was once an important road for the people belonging to the area.
During emergency situations also, the senior citizens here would have to take a long route around the flyover. Moreover, the school students are scared to travel via this flyover after their classes get over in the evening. It must be noted that women would have to pay lots of money for auto fares even to procure their household items. In this situation, the residents of Kancheepuram have mentioned in their petition about the huge need for the construction of a subway near the railway gate.
