The officials of the Highway Department have informed us that one part of the over-bridge being constructed in Perungalathur will soon be opened to the public!!
As there are continuous acute traffic congestions occurring in the Chengalpattu District Perungalathur, the vehicles plying here need to wait for long hours for clearance! As such, there was a sustained demand for the construction of an over-bridge!
Subsequently, the Department of Highways allotted Rs. 76 Crores in 2000 for the construction of an over-bridge. However, work was not started! Various groups of citizens, including political and social organizations, protested against this non-construction of the over-bridge.
In this scenario, during the year 2020, a revised management agreement with the revised Rs. 234.37 Crores for the project, and construction activities for the over-bridge commenced!
In this project, the construction of the 1-way over-bridge in the GST Road in the section Chengalpattu-Tambaram Road has now been completed.
Subsequently, it has been informed on behalf of the Highway Department officials that this over-bridge can be opened for public service in 1 or 2 days!
Once this is open to the public, all the heavy-duty vehicles can avoid the traffic congestion by going through the new over-bridge! As such, the traffic congestion will get reduced to a great extent!
At the same time, the demand has arisen that the land-acquisition activities in the areas of New Perungalathur and Peerkangaranai areas must be expedited and completed!!
The social enthusiasts in the area observe that only after this land acquisition is through and a full constructed over-bridge comes into public service, there will be A PERMANENT SOLUTION FOR THE EXISTING ACUTE TRAFFIC CONGESTION IN THIS AREA!!
