Smart Ration Cards to be introduced on trial basis in 3 months!

The state government of Tamil Nadu has planned to introduce ‘smart ration cards’ in place of the currently used paper cards on a trial basis in 3 months.
A PDS & Consumer Protection Department Senior official informed:
Rs. 318 Crores have been allotted for the introduction of smart ration cards using QR system. There are plans to introduce these smart ration cards in 3 months on a trial basis.
The 1st phase of trial of smart ration cards is scheduled be conducted in Ariyalur, Permabalur, Trichy, Madurai, Karur, Madurai, and Pudukkottai districts on the basis of the latest census data.
As the current ration card has the specified weights of items, for the smart card system, a kind of receipt will be given indicating the weights of items. SMS will also be sent.
The state government is to take decision on providing the photographs of the Family-heads (Men & women)..
