Train passengers can now order meals of their choice in advance through a phone call or an SMS and the same will be served to them during the journey. The service will be run by Indian Railways Catering &Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).
Initially,it will be available on a few trains on the Delhi-Amritsar route on a trial basis. If the facility were to prove a hit with the commuters, it will become a fully fledged one.
To avail the service, the passengers will have to make a call or send an SMS to the dedicated numbers, with their respective PNR number.
Services will be available only for confirmed PNR numbers.
The food will be served on a cash on delivery(CoD) basis and passengers will be served at the station at their seat on the train and a bill will be issued.
The minimum booking period or the lead time will be two hours, which means a passenger can place an order to be served after at least two hours from the time of placing the order.
