Chennaites to experience light showers today

Chennaites who enjoyed pleasant weather will continue to do so for a day or two more. Some areas may even experience light rain on Thursday.The well-marked low pressure area, which was lying over the Comorin region, moved to South Kerala and its neighborhood on Wednesday.
 
Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam recorded 33.8 degree Celsius and 33.1 degree Celsius, three degrees lower than the normal temperature. However, Meenambakkam received only 1.7 mm of rainfall.
 
Papanasam in Tirunelveli district received the maximum rainfall of 30 cm during the 24 hours till Wednesday morning. Manimutharu and Ambasamudram — also in Tirunelveli district received over 25 cm of rainfall.
 
Officials of the meteorological department said moderate to heavy rainfall may occur in the interior districts of the State and Puducherry that are under the influence of the low pressure area.
 
While the interior districts will continue to get more rainfall, the coastal districts will get only scattered rains for the next two days.
 
S.R. Ramanan, Area Cyclone Warning Centre of the meteorological department, said there would be a gradual decrease in rainfall from Friday.
 
The meteorological department has also advised fishermen not to venture into the sea off the south Tamil Nadu coast as squally winds could blow with speed of up to 60 km per hour.
