Pattimandram Judge and Tamil Scholar Solomon Pappaiya Passes Away at 90

Pattimandram judge and Tamil scholar Solomon Pappaiya has passed away at the age of 90. He was a well-known figure among Tamil audiences through his Pattimandram debates and public speeches.

Originally from Madurai, Solomon Pappaiya worked as a professor in the Tamil Department at Madurai American College. He was also widely known for his speeches on Tamil literature and had written commentaries on classical Tamil works, including the Thirukkural.

The Tamil Nadu government honoured him with the Kalaimamani Award in 2000. In recognition of his contribution to the Tamil language and literature, he was awarded the Padma Shri by the Central Government in 2021.

Solomon Pappaiya also acted in films including Boys and Sivaji.

He had been undergoing treatment due to age-related health issues. He passed away today after his condition did not improve despite treatment.

His demise has been mourned by people from various sections of society.
