PM Modi to Inaugurate Redeveloped Chennai Park Railway Station on July 17

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate the redeveloped Chennai Park Railway Station on July 17 as part of the Central Government`s Amrit Station Scheme. The upgraded station is among 75 railway stations across India being inaugurated through video conferencing.

The redevelopment of Chennai Park Railway Station has been completed at a cost of ₹14.79 crore, with a focus on enhancing passenger convenience, accessibility, and overall travel experience.

Major Upgrades at Chennai Park Railway Station

As part of the modernization project, several new passenger-friendly facilities have been introduced, including:

- A new station entrance with a modern canopy and landmark tower
- Renovated booking office with improved waiting area
- Resurfaced railway platforms
- Additional platform shelters for passenger comfort
- Installation of a new station roof
- Two lifts providing easy access to the foot overbridge
- Dedicated pedestrian walkways connecting the railway station with the Chennai MRTS network

Improved Accessibility for All Passengers

According to Southern Railway, the redevelopment project places strong emphasis on barrier-free accessibility. Special facilities have been created for senior citizens, differently-abled passengers, and people with reduced mobility, making travel safer and more convenient.

The redesigned station also ensures smoother passenger movement within the station premises and provides better integration with other public transport systems.

Part of Amrit Station Scheme

The Chennai Park Railway Station redevelopment is part of the Amrit Station Scheme, a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Railways aimed at modernizing railway stations across India with improved infrastructure, enhanced passenger amenities, better accessibility, and seamless multimodal connectivity.

With its upgraded facilities and modern design, Chennai Park Railway Station is expected to offer a more comfortable and efficient travel experience for thousands of daily commuters and long-distance passengers.
