Nilgiris, Coimbatore to Receive Heavy Rain Till September 16

The Nilgiris and Coimbatore districts are likely to receive heavy rain accompanied by strong winds from September 14 to September 16, according to the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre.

According to the latest weather forecast, atmospheric wind conditions associated with the prevailing low-pressure trough over Tamil Nadu are expected to bring heavy rainfall to Nilgiris and Coimbatore during the three-day period.

Heavy Rain Forecast in Tamil Nadu

Apart from Nilgiris and Coimbatore, several other parts of Tamil Nadu, particularly the Western Ghats, are likely to receive moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds.

The weather system may also bring similar rainfall conditions to Puducherry and Karaikal.

Meanwhile, Chennai and its surrounding areas may receive light rain in isolated parts of the city during the evening and night of September 14.

Temperature to Rise in Interior Tamil Nadu

The weather department has also forecast a rise in temperatures in parts of the state.

On September 14 and 15, the maximum temperature in interior Tamil Nadu is expected to be around 4°C above normal.

In coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, temperatures are likely to remain close to normal levels.

100 mm Rain Recorded in Tiruvannamalai

Tamil Nadu received significant rainfall in several places during the previous 24-hour period ending at 8:30 AM on Sunday.

The highest rainfall of 100 mm was recorded at Puliyur in Tiruvannamalai district.

Chengam, Tiruvannamalai: 70 mm

Kilpennathur, Tiruvannamalai: 70 mm

Singampunari, Sivaganga: 70 mm

Semmedu, Villupuram: 60 mm

Melalathur, Vellore: 60 mm

Gingee, Villupuram: 60 mm

Residents in Nilgiris and Coimbatore are advised to remain alert as heavy rain and strong winds are expected to continue through September 16.
