Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay has announced a major increase in the annual coverage under the Chief Minister`s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS).

The CM Health Insurance coverage has been increased from ₹5 lakh to ₹25 lakh, providing greater financial protection for eligible beneficiaries facing major medical expenses. The announcement was made on August 19, 2026.

CMCHIS Coverage Increased Fivefold

Under the latest announcement, the annual insurance coverage has increased fivefold, from ₹5 lakh to ₹25 lakh.

The move is expected to provide additional financial support for families requiring expensive medical treatment and strengthen access to healthcare in Tamil Nadu.

The Chief Minister`s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS) is a major healthcare initiative of the Tamil Nadu Government. The official CMCHIS portal provides information on eligibility, enrolment, hospitals and covered treatments.

New Healthcare Measures Announced

The ₹25 lakh Tamil Nadu health insurance coverage is part of a wider set of healthcare measures announced by the state government.

The government has also announced plans to establish a 400-bed multispeciality hospital in Perambur at an estimated cost of ₹300 crore. New cancer care facilities have also been announced as part of the healthcare expansion.
