According to a statement issued by the Chennai Meteorological Centre, a weak low-level atmospheric trough is prevailing along the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu.

Rainfall Forecast

Today, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely at one or two places in the Western Ghats districts, Chennai, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Ranipet, Vellore, Tirupathur, Tiruvannamalai, Viluppuram, Kallakurichi, Cuddalore, Tiruchirappalli, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, Pudukkottai, Sivaganga and Madurai districts, as well as Puducherry and Karaikal.

Light rain with thunder and lightning may occur at one or two places in other parts of Tamil Nadu.

Tomorrow, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely at one or two places in the Western Ghats districts, Tiruvannamalai, Viluppuram, Kallakurichi, Salem, Namakkal, Tiruchirappalli, Pudukkottai, Sivaganga and Virudhunagar districts, as well as Puducherry.

Light rain with thunder and lightning may occur at one or two places in the remaining parts of Tamil Nadu and Karaikal.

On September 4, moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely at one or two places in the Western Ghats districts. Light rain with thunder and lightning may occur at one or two places in other parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

On September 5, moderate rain is likely at one or two places in the Western Ghats districts, while light rain may occur at one or two places in other parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

Maximum Temperature

From today until September 5, there is little chance of significant changes in maximum temperatures over coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. However, temperatures may rise slightly over interior Tamil Nadu.

Maximum temperatures in some parts of interior Tamil Nadu may be 2-4°C above normal, while temperatures in coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal are likely to remain near normal.

Chennai and Suburban Areas

Chennai and its suburbs are expected to remain partly cloudy today and tomorrow. Light to moderate rain may occur in some parts of the city during the evening or night.

The maximum temperature is likely to remain around 36-37°C, while the minimum temperature may be around 27-28°C.

Fishermen Warning

Today and tomorrow, squally winds with speeds of 45-55 kmph and occasional gusts reaching 65 kmph are likely over the South Tamil Nadu coastal areas, Gulf of Mannar and adjoining Comorin area.

Over the Bay of Bengal, squally winds with speeds of 45-55 kmph and occasional gusts reaching 65 kmph are likely over the southern parts of the Southwest Bay of Bengal today and tomorrow.
