The suburban electric train service between Velachery Railway Station and St. Thomas Mount Railway Station has gained strong traction among commuters, with over 28,000 passengers using the service daily within 42 days of its launch.

The line has significantly improved connectivity for areas such as Madipakkam, Keelkattalai, Puzhuthivakkam Railway Station, and Adambakkam. Passenger numbers, which initially ranged between 15,000 and 20,000, have steadily increased and are expected to cross 30,000 soon.

However, commuters have raised concerns about the lack of basic facilities at certain stations, especially at Puzhuthivakkam, where demands for lifts, escalators, and better maintenance have been highlighted. Officials have stated that these upgrades are in progress and that Adambakkam Railway Station will be opened for public use shortly.

The growing ridership reflects the importance of this corridor in easing traffic congestion and strengthening Chennai’s suburban rail network.
