Tamil Nadu Weather Alert: Temperatures to Rise by 5°F Until September 3, Rain Expected in Several Districts

The Chennai Meteorological Centre has forecast a rise in maximum temperatures across parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. In some areas, temperatures may be around 5°F above normal from August 31 to September 3.

At the same time, several districts are likely to receive light to moderate rain, with thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds expected in some areas.

Tamil Nadu Weather Forecast

According to the latest weather update, a weak trough in the lower atmosphere is prevailing along the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu.

Under its influence, the Western Ghats districts may receive light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds at a few places today.

On September 1 and 2, moderate rain with thunder, lightning and strong winds is likely at isolated places in the Western Ghats districts.

Other parts of Tamil Nadu may also receive light rain at a few places.

Rain Expected in Several Tamil Nadu Districts

On September 1 and 2, Chennai, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Cuddalore, Tiruchirappalli, Ariyalur, Perambalur and Mayiladuthurai may receive light to moderate rain at isolated places.

On September 3, moderate rain is likely at a few places in the Western Ghats districts.

Light to moderate rain may also occur at isolated places in Chennai, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Madurai, Sivaganga and Pudukkottai.

Other districts of Tamil Nadu may receive light rain at isolated places.

Tamil Nadu Temperature to Rise by 5°F

The weather department has warned that maximum temperatures in some parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal could remain around 5°F above normal from August 31 to September 3.

Residents may therefore experience increased heat during the daytime, particularly in areas where rainfall remains limited.

Chennai Weather Today

Chennai and its suburbs are expected to remain generally cloudy today. Light rain is possible in a few parts of the city during the evening and night.

The maximum temperature in Chennai is expected to remain between 82°F and 100°F.

Rainfall Recorded in Tamil Nadu

During the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 am on August 31, the highest rainfall was recorded in Salem, Alagapuram in Salem district and Naduvattam in the Nilgiris, which received < 3 cm of rain.

Parwood in the Nilgiris and Sandhiyur in Salem district recorded 2 cm of rainfall.

The latest Tamil Nadu weather forecast indicates a combination of above-normal temperatures and isolated rainfall across several parts of the state over the coming days.
