Chennai Metro Phase 2 Vadapalani Station Yet to Be Fully Ready; Pedestrian Link Impresses Commuters

The much-anticipated Vadapalani Metro station under Phase 2 of Chennai Metro Rail is progressing, but it may not be ready for public opening in the next two to three weeks, as interior works are still pending.

Recent photos taken a couple of days ago show that while the main structure of the station appears complete, several interior components such as finishing works, fittings and detailing are yet to be fully completed. Even if necessary approvals are in place, operational readiness will depend on the completion of these works and final safety clearances.

Vadapalani is a key location in the city’s metro network and is expected to significantly improve connectivity once Phase 2 services begin.

On a positive note, the elevated pedestrian link connecting the Phase 2 station with the existing Phase 1 station looks impressive. The skywalk now features a white checker-patterned roof, enhancing both aesthetics and protection. Earlier concerns about gaps in the roofing — which could have allowed rainwater seepage during the monsoon — appear to have been addressed in the updated design.

Commuters are eagerly awaiting the official announcement, but a short delay seems likely until all works are fully completed and certified.
