Chennai Local Train Services to Resume Full Operations from April 5
Suburban train services in Chennai will return to normal operations from April 5, bringing much-needed relief to thousands of daily commuters.
The disruption was caused by ongoing redevelopment work at Chennai Egmore Railway Station, where infrastructure upgrades have been in progress.
Services Disrupted for Over a Month
For the past several weeks, suburban train services were partially altered due to construction work. Trains were operated from alternate platforms, and schedules were modified, leading to inconvenience for passengers.
Key changes during this period included:
- Platform shifts for several suburban trains
- Reduced frequency on certain routes
- Delays and overcrowding during peak hours
The busy Chennai suburban network, especially routes connecting Beach, Tambaram, and Chengalpattu, witnessed heavy commuter impact.
Full Services to Resume from April 5
With major work nearing completion, railway authorities have confirmed that all suburban train services will resume their regular schedules from April 5.
This includes:
- Restoration of normal train frequency
- Regular platform operations
- Improved punctuality and passenger flow
