Rain Expected in Chennai Today and Tomorrow; Thunderstorms Likely in Several Parts of Tamil Nadu

Chennai and its surrounding areas are likely to experience light to moderate rain with thunderstorms in some parts during the evening and night today and tomorrow, according to the latest weather forecast.

The weather is expected to remain partly cloudy in Chennai and its suburbs. Temperatures are likely to remain around 37-38°C during the day and 26-27°C at night.

A weak trough in the lower levels of the atmosphere is currently prevailing along the Tamil Nadu coastal region, which is expected to bring rainfall to several parts of the state.

Today, Western Ghats districts, Chengalpattu, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Cuddalore, Sivaganga and Pudukkottai may receive moderate rain at isolated places, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds reaching 40-50 kmph. Similar light to moderate rain is possible in isolated parts of the rest of Tamil Nadu and Karaikal.

Tomorrow, Western Ghats districts, northern coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry may receive moderate rain with thunderstorms and strong winds of 40-50 kmph. Other parts of Tamil Nadu and Karaikal may see isolated light rain with thunderstorms.

From August 12 to 16, light to moderate rain is expected at isolated places, particularly across the Western Ghats districts and parts of southern Tamil Nadu. Other parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal may also receive isolated light showers.

The weather department expects no major change in maximum temperatures across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal until August 14, although temperatures may rise slightly in northern interior Tamil Nadu.

Fishermen have also been advised to avoid the southern Tamil Nadu coastal areas and parts of the Gulf of Mannar from today until August 14. Squally winds of 45-55 kmph, occasionally reaching 65 kmph, are expected over these areas.
