Many people in Chennai are selling their gold jewellery to meet daily expenses, according to a recent survey conducted by a gold-buying company.
The survey found that around 68% of people sold their gold to pay bills or buy groceries, showing the financial pressure faced by many households. Nearly 70% of sellers received $500 or less, indicating that most sales were made to meet short-term cash needs.
Interestingly, more than half of the sellers were employed, suggesting that even working individuals are finding it difficult to manage rising living costs. About one in four people said they may sell more gold in the future if financial challenges continue.
With gold prices remaining high, many residents are choosing to sell old or unused jewellery to get quick cash. Experts advise people to check market prices and get proper valuation before selling their gold.
