Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin on March 4, 2026, laid the foundation stone for the first phase of the Guindy Environmental Park project at the Secretariat in Chennai. The park will be developed at an estimated cost of ₹37.85 crore with several eco-friendly features.

The proposed eco park at Guindy Eco Park will include theme gardens, children’s play areas, bird habitats, aquatic gardens, lawns, viewing decks, and shaded walking pathways, making it an attractive recreational space for both adults and children.

During the event, the Chief Minister also inaugurated the “Super Tree Tower”, a 30-meter-tall vertical garden structure with nine levels, at Kalaignar Centenary Park. Built at a cost of ₹11.84 crore, it is said to be the first structure of its kind in India.

Additionally, the government released the Tamil Nadu Agro Forestry Policy 2026, aiming to increase the state’s forest and tree cover to 33 percent.

The land for the Guindy park project, spanning 118 acres, was recovered after a long legal battle and handed over to the Department of Horticulture and Hill Crops for development into a major environmental park in Chennai.
