Pongal Special Buses: Over 4.88 Lakh Passengers Travel So Far, Says Transport Department
Ahead of the Pongal festival, more than 4.88 lakh passengers have travelled in special buses operated across Tamil Nadu, according to the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation.
To facilitate smooth travel for the public during Pongal 2026, the Tamil Nadu Government Transport Department has been operating special bus services in addition to regular services.
Bus Operations Details
As of midnight on January 12:
- 2,092 regular buses were fully operated
- 1,010 special buses were operated additionally
- Total buses operated: 3,102
- Passengers travelled on Jan 12 alone: 1,30,284
From January 9 to January 12 (midnight):
- Total buses operated: 11,372
- Total passengers travelled: 4,88,780
Advance Bookings
So far, 2,56,977 passengers have completed advance bookings and travelled using government buses during the Pongal travel period.
