Kodaikanal Tourist Spots Introduce Online Ticket Booking to Reduce Holiday Traffic

The Tamil Nadu Forest Department has introduced an online ticket booking system for popular tourist attractions in Kodaikanal to reduce traffic congestion during the Dussehra holidays. The initiative allows visitors to pay entry fees in advance and access designated eco-tourism destinations using a digital or printed receipt.

Tourists can book their tickets through the official website: https://kodaikanalwildlifesanctuary.com/

Four Popular Tourist Spots Covered

The online ticketing facility covers four major tourist attractions managed by the Forest Department:

Pillar Rocks: Known for its towering rock formations and scenic valley views.

Guna Caves: A popular natural attraction surrounded by forest landscapes.

Pine Forest: A well-known destination featuring tall pine trees.

Moir Point: A scenic viewpoint attracting tourists throughout the year.

These locations receive large numbers of visitors during holidays, often resulting in traffic congestion on approach roads.

Why Was Online Ticket Booking Introduced?

Previously, entry fees were collected separately at individual tourist spots. This system often caused delays and traffic congestion.

Authorities later introduced centralised manual ticketing and on-site QR code payments. However, unreliable mobile network connectivity in the hilly terrain continued to cause long queues and delays for motorists.

Installing QR code kiosks at more than 10 locations also failed to fully resolve congestion during peak tourist hours.

To address these challenges, the District Collector, Superintendent of Police and District Forest Officer worked together to develop the advanced online ticketing system.

How to Book Kodaikanal Tourist Tickets Online

Visitors can follow these steps to book tickets before arriving:

1. Visit the official website at https://kodaikanalwildlifesanctuary.com/.

2. Check the available tourist attractions and ticketing options.

3. Select the required entry tickets and complete the payment process.

4. Keep the digital or printed payment receipt ready for verification at the entry point.

Visitors should check the website for current ticket prices, availability and applicable entry conditions before travelling.

Tourists Advised to Book Tickets in Advance

Kodaikanal, located in Dindigul district, attracts tourists from across India, particularly during festival holidays and weekends.

Forest officials have advised visitors to book tickets online beforore reaching the hill station. Advance booking is expected to reduce waiting times at entry points and help improve traffic movement around the popular tourist destinations.

The initiative aims to provide a smoother travel experience for visitors while improving traffic management during busy holiday periods.
