A feature similar to Facebook's: Meta bringing it to WhatsApp as well

WhatsApp is testing a new Contacts tab for Android users, introducing features that make it easier to find contacts, check who is online and remember birthdays.

Meta`s WhatsApp is used by more than three billion people worldwide. The platform supports text messages, photos, videos, audio messages, and voice and video calls. It regularly introduces updates to improve the user experience.

New Contacts Tab Features

The upcoming Contacts tab will allow users to view their WhatsApp contacts in one place. A green dot will appear next to the profile picture of contacts who are currently online, helping users identify their online status more easily.

Users will also be able to search for contacts by name, phone number or username. The contact list can be organised alphabetically or arranged to display online contacts first.

Birthday Reminders on WhatsApp

The update is also expected to include a birthday reminder feature. Based on birthday details saved in the phone`s contacts, WhatsApp may display a cake emoji and a “Birthday Today” notification when a contact`s birthday arrives.

This feature could help users remember the birthdays of friends and relatives and send them wishes on time.

When Will the Update Be Available?

The new Contacts tab is still under development, and work is underway to introduce it in the Android beta version. Meta has not yet officially announced when the feature will be available to all WhatsApp users.
