Tamil Nadu Dengue Cases Rise: 244 New Cases Reported in One Day

Dengue cases are increasing across Tamil Nadu as the monsoon season becomes more active. As many as 244 people tested positive for dengue on September 17, taking the total number of reported dengue cases in the state this year to 16,577.

The state has also recorded nine dengue-related deaths so far this year.

Chennai Records 87 New Dengue Cases

Chennai continues to report a significant number of dengue cases in Tamil Nadu. On September 17 alone, 87 people in Chennai were diagnosed with dengue.

Apart from dengue, cases of malaria, chikungunya and H1N1 flu are also being reported. As many as 156 people were admitted to hospitals in Chennai in a single day due to these infections and fever-related illnesses.

Fever Cases Increase During Monsoon

With the monsoon season intensifying, health officials are monitoring the spread of dengue, malaria, chikungunya and other viral fever infections across the state.

On September 15, Tamil Nadu recorded 133 new dengue cases. The number increased to 244 on September 17, highlighting the rise in reported infections.

As many as 1,320 people were admitted as inpatients at hospitals across Tamil Nadu on September 17 for fever-related illnesses.

25,000+ Mosquito Control Workers Deployed

To control the spread of dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases, more than 25,000 mosquito-control workers have been deployed across Tamil Nadu.

Despite these preventive measures, the continued increase in dengue cases in Chennai has led residents and social activists to call for stronger mosquito-control and dengue-prevention measures by the Greater Chennai Corporation.
