Tamil Nadu Weather Update: Heavy Rain Likely in 14 Districts Today, Says Chennai Meteorological Centre

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has forecast heavy rainfall in 14 districts of Tamil Nadu today (May 30) due to multiple atmospheric circulations prevailing over the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea regions.

According to the weather department, the impact of the intense “Agni Nakshatram” summer heat, which began on May 4 and ended recently, is expected to gradually reduce from tomorrow. However, hot weather conditions are likely to continue across several parts of Tamil Nadu today.

At the same time, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is expected at isolated places across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal regions.

Districts Likely to Receive Heavy Rain Today

The weather department has issued a heavy rain alert for the following 14 districts:

Tiruchirappalli, Namakkal, Nilgiris, Theni, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Karur, Dindigul, Vellore, Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Erode

Meteorologists said atmospheric circulations are currently prevailing over:

- Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Tamil Nadu region
- Southeast Arabian Sea region
- Central-East and Southeast Bay of Bengal at heights ranging from 1.5 km to 7.6 km above sea level

Due to these weather systems, rainfall activity is expected to intensify in interior and western districts of Tamil Nadu.

People living in rain-alert districts are advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms and monitor weather updates issued by the Meteorological Department.
