Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh announced that public examinations for Class 11 (Plus 1) will be canceled starting this academic year as part of the state’s new education policy.
The announcement came after Chief Minister M.K. Stalin released the Tamil Nadu State Education Policy (School Education) in Chennai. Addressing the media, the minister stated that public exams will now be conducted only for Classes 10 and 12, while compulsory passing will continue up to Class 8.
Minister Anbil Mahesh emphasized that Class 11 should be treated as a preparatory year for students ahead of the Class 12 public examination. The new policy serves as a state-level alternative to the National Education Policy (NEP), which the Tamil Nadu government has consistently opposed.
