Chance of Heavy Rain with Thunder and Lightning: Weather Alert

The weather department has forecast light to moderate rain in Chennai during the evening or night today.

A weak low-level atmospheric circulation is prevailing over the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu. Due to this weather system, moderate rain accompanied by strong winds is likely at one or two places in the Western Ghats districts until September 1.

Light rain accompanied by thunder and lightning may occur at one or two places in other parts of Tamil Nadu, as well as in Puducherry and Karaikal.

In Chennai, there is a possibility of light rain during the evening or night today.

Temperature

The maximum temperature is expected to reach around 98 degrees Fahrenheit. Meanwhile, in the interior parts of Tamil Nadu, maximum temperatures may remain up to 3 degrees Celsius above normal until September 1.

The weather department has also warned that squally winds with speeds of 45 to 65 kmph may prevail over the coastal areas of southern Tamil Nadu, the Gulf of Mannar and adjoining Comorin areas.
